Twenty years and two and a half billion meals.
The partnership began in 2006 with a single white porcelain range. It is now my most established line, on tables across the British Isles and increasingly beyond.
My principle has not changed in twenty years: china should be beautiful enough to display and tough enough for everyday. The glaze on the Sophie Conran for Portmeirion range is so hard that softer cutlery can leave pencil marks on it (which come off with Bar Keepers Friend, since you ask). That is the whole point.
Around half a million British households now own a piece. If each plate has carried five thousand meals over the years, that is roughly two and a half billion family meals. I think about that often.
